Dear friends,

We woke up this week to the devastating news that eight people lost their lives in a senseless shooting targeting the Asian American community. This horrific attack follows a series of violent crimes against Asian Americans, fueled by pervasive hateful rhetoric in our country, amplified in recent years. To say that we are heartbroken and condemn acts of white supremacist terrorism is far from enough. Fighting racism, xenophobia, intolerance, and inequalities requires all of us to show up in support of the diverse communities that are part of our country’s fabric. Doing this work means educating ourselves, speaking up, and fighting back, but also resting and healing so we can all find the energy to keep going.

As we search for words to show our support to the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, we are also searching for resources to support our students and their families, colleagues, and other educators who are experiencing constant fear and discrimination.

As always, ScholarMatch remains committed to supporting our students, offering safe spaces for them to share their experiences and build community. As schools reopen across the country, which might bring more challenges to the surface, know that we are here for you!

Below you will find some resources and ways to support the AAPI communities right now. Please share this information widely amongst your friends and family as we process this moment together.
